Electric Ireland announces energy price increase from 1st February 2021

Electric Ireland has today (Friday, January 8th) announced that due to recent costs impacting the broader electricity system and market, it will increase the average residential electricity bill by 3.7% from February 1st, 2021. This will equate to an increase of approximately 5 pence per day on the average residential electricity bill.

Clare McAllister, Residential Manager NI, Electric Ireland commented: “We always aim to offer our customers as competitive a rate as possible and have sought to minimise this price rise which has been made necessary by external costs.

“Earlier this year we were able to pass on a reduction in external costs with a price decrease and, while no rise is ideal, we have worked to ensure that even when the 3.7% is applied, we are keeping our prices below the level they were in July 2020.

“We would like to assure our customers we are committed to providing value for money and exemplary customer care and service,” Clare added.
