Northern Ireland’s Consumer Energy Charters launches for Winter 2024/25
Electric Ireland has proudly partnered with the Utility Regulator to announce the launch of Northern Ireland’s Consumer Energy Charters for winter 2024/2025. Following the success of previous years the initiative will see extra measures put in place to support consumers across Northern Ireland this winter and for the first time a new Small Business Energy Charter will be included.
Voluntary commitments to support consumers have been made within each charter by all relevant gas and electricity suppliers.
The development of the charters is a collaborative project led by the Utility Regulator, in partnership with gas and electricity supply companies, the Consumer Council for Northern Ireland, the Department for Communities and the Department for the Economy.
In signing up to the charter Electric Ireland have agreed to:
- Engage with small business consumers who are in payment arrears and to consider reasonable repayment plan options.
- Engage with consumers to discuss alternative options before issuing letters referencing disconnection during the charter period.
- Contribute to hardship funds and put additional protections in place for consumers in debt.
- Provide the support measures already offered to consumers year-round, as outlined in their Codes of Practice.
The commitments from Northern Ireland’s Consumer Energy Charters will be in place from 1 November 2024 to 31 March 2025.
